Just Add Ink #413 | Colour Challenge

Hello there stamping friends! It's been a couple of weeks since my last creation. I had my birthday, having a 'special' birthday that falls between 30 and 50 😉, it was a long weekend here in Melbourne over the weekend and I've just been busy with kids and life stuff that sometimes takes over and makes the creating and crafting come second. I've just been busy an that hasn't allowed me to get into the craft room.

I've been able to put aside some time and get crafting for the Just Add In Design Team and this weeks newest challenge. And do we have a fabulous challenge for you! A gorgeous colour challenge suggested by fellow team member Di. It's bright and fun and even incorporates one of the new colours from the Colour Revamp - Granny Apple Green

Even though these colours are bright and vibrant, I've used them today in a soft, muted look by water colouring the butterfly from the Beautiful Day stamp set.

I first heat embossed the butterfly with White Stampin' Emboss Powder to create an 'outline' and a barrier to the open line work of the butterfly image. The embossing of the image makes it so much easier to watercolour and separates each section of the image.

To watercolour the image I first wet each section of the image and then pooled the colour in each section and let the water do the work to colour each section. The water 'pulls' the ink to 'watercolour' the image. The ink will only 'pull' and move across the image to where there is water, so if you don't wet the image properly then the colour wont move.

I love when water colouring this way that there is a concentration of colour in one part of the image and then in the other part of the image the colour is so faint that it almost looks white, seeing the graduation of colour from dark to light, almost giving it an ombre look.

The card is then finished off with the Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon, Lemon Lime Twist Ombre Ribbon, Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and some Black Sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment.

Make sure that you check out what the rest of the Just Add Ink Design Team created with these fabulous colours and their take on this weeks colour challenge. While you are there check out all the details on this weeks challenge and the come and join in the fun! I can't wait to see your take on these gorgeous colours!

  2. Love the effect of the watercolour in the butterfly wings. So soft & pretty. That special birthday is the new 30, so you're still just a baby! Hope it was fabulous.
